Properties and Taste: Sweet or no taste and cold
Meridian: Heart, stomach and small intestine
Functions: To clear heat and benefit urination
To clear heat in the heart and lessen irritability
Indications and Combinations: Deficiency of Qi and blood manifested as palpitations, in1.     Febrile diseases manifested as irritability, thirst and fever.
*Use with Gypsum (Shigao) and Anemarrhena rhizome (Zhimu).

2. Heat in the heart, stomach and small intestine manifested as ulcerations of the mouth and tongue and scanty, painful urination.
*Use with Fresh rehmannia root (Shengdihuang) and Clematis stem (Mutong).
